Electricity and Mobility

Learn about e-mobility: from electric systems of e-mobility devices to safe handling of electric vehicles.

The future of mobility

The global market for electric vehicles is experiencing significant growth while traditional car sales have declined since the pandemic. This growth is driven by the low energy consumption and falling prices of electric vehicles.

However, this trend has placed new demands on automotive workshops and mechanics, as the maintenance and repair of electric vehicles carry an increased risk of accidents or damage. Moreover, there are unique risks associated with the recovery of electric vehicles that have been involved in accidents, as the vehicle type may not be immediately recognizable. Safety and rescue forces, as well as towing services and car recycling companies, need to know and follow safety rules to manage such risks.

Given the increasing demand for specialists in the recovery, maintenance, and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles, TÜV Rheinland Academy has launched a comprehensive training program for e-mobility technicians in the automotive sector. This program is designed for technical personnel who want to learn about the safe maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles in both theory and practice.

The program consists of three levels that build on each other, with Level 1 covering the basics and Levels 2 and 3 delving into more advanced topics. At the end of each level, participants receive a personnel certification, with Level 2 certification for "High Voltage Electric Vehicle Safety Technician" and Level 3 certification for "Expert Technician in the Installation and Handling of High Voltage Electric Vehicles". This training program ensures that technical personnel in the automotive industry have the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle maintenance and repair services.

Enhanced safety

One of the primary benefits of the training is improved safety for technicians and vehicle owners. Since electric vehicles are powered by high-voltage batteries, there is a risk of electrical shock, which can cause serious injury or even death. With this training, technicians learn how to safely handle electric vehicles and mitigate these risks, ensuring the safety of all involved.

Increased efficiency

The training equips technicians with the knowledge and skills to efficiently diagnose and repair issues with high-voltage electric vehicles. This can help minimize downtime and reduce the cost of repairs for vehicle owners, which can lead to increased customer satisfaction and repeat business for automotive workshops.

Professional credibility

Holding a certification can enhance a technician's professional credibility and differentiate them from those who lack specialized training. This can help increase their job prospects and earning potential, as well as inspire trust from vehicle owners who are looking for highly trained and qualified technicians.

Future-proofing

As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, the need for highly skilled and certified technicians to maintain and repair them will also increase. The training prepares technicians for the future, giving them the skills and knowledge, they need to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving automotive industry.
